Gwyneth Paltrow Says Cannabis "Should Be" Legal
In a recent phone call with CNBC, the actress and founder of Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow, explained why she recently invested in a cannabis beverage company.
Gwyneth Paltrow, the renowned actress and Founder of the wellness and lifestyle brand GOOP, recently joined a star-studded team of celebrity investors in a new cannabis beverage company called 'Cann.'
Alongside Paltrow were Australian A-Listers, Rebel Wilson and Ruby Rose, and top-tier vlogger, Casey Neistat who invested in the beverage company.
On her justification for investing in the brand, and cannabis more broadly, Paltrow told CNBC that: "there's a whole sober-curious movement that's going on and the cannabis-curious movement that's going on, this is kind of at the intersection of those things in a way."
The celebrity went on to say that "We're very clearly and definitively moving in the direction of cannabis being legalized, and I think it should be. I'm actually not a big personal user of it. But I do think that there are amazing medicinal qualities to it and it is really helpful for a lot of people."
And Paltrow certainly isn't wrong on that front, as five U.S. states just legalized cannabis for either recreational or medical purposes on Election day.
Moreover, Paltrow joins a growing list of celebrities joining the cannabis and CBD industry, including Dan Bilzerian, Martha Stewart, Magic Johnson, Kristen Bell, Mike Tyson, MMA fighter Elias Theodorou, and most recently, Jay Z, who is beginning a cannabis company called 'Monogram.'
Speaking on the benefit of having someone like Gwyneth Paltrow supporting Cann, the cannabis beverage company's founder Luke Anderson said:
"When people think of Gwyneth Paltrow, they don't think of 'weed' — they think of cutting-edge solutions for today's health and wellness needs."
"Her endorsement is a sign that Cann (and microdose beverages more broadly) are a viable answer to that very common consumer pain point."
While New Zealand recently shocked the world with their initial rejection of their highly-anticipated cannabis referendum, the growing support of mainstream figures for cannabis, in addition to the recent wave of legalization that swept through the U.S. gives the cannabis industry a lot of momentum moving forward.
