Canopy Growth (NYSE:CGC) Company Overview
Smith's Falls has a population of 8,978. The town itself is beautiful and quaint, with the main street consisting of a couple of restaurants, a post office, and assorted mom-and-pop shops.
It used to be a bustling industrial town and was home to several large mills and factories — including the Hershey Chocolate factory, which served as the Canadian operation for the company since 1963. But Hershey decided in 2008 to shut the factory and move its operation to Mexico for the cheap labour.
It laid dormant until 2014, when Tweed Marijuana Inc. purchased the facility and set up shop. It was the first publicly-traded cannabis company in Canada. That set the stage for what is now considered to be the most impressive marijuana growing operation in North America.
What started as Tweed Marijuana Inc. has now grown into Canopy Growth Corp. (NYSE:CGC). Essentially the company has moulded itself into a large umbrella holding company that will include several holdings in different areas of the recreational and medical cannabis sector.
Canopy Growth Corp. is home to a burgeoning group of subsidiaries that produce medical marijuana, industry based-products and intellectual property. This acquisition strategy under Canopy will help them offer a diversified product line that will appeal to a wide array of customers, doctors and strategic industry partners.
Canopy Growth is a world-leading diversified cannabis and hemp company, offering distinct brands and curated cannabis varieties in dried, oil and Softgel capsule forms. From product and process innovation to market execution, Canopy Growth is driven by a passion for leadership and a commitment to building a world-class cannabis company one product, site and country at a time.
Canopy Growth has established partnerships with leading sector names including cannabis icon Snoop Dogg, breeding legends DNA Genetics and Green House seeds, and Fortune 500 alcohol leader Constellation Brands, to name but a few. Canopy Growth operates seven cannabis production sites with over 665,000 square feet of production capacity, including over 500,000 square feet of GMP-certified production space. The Company has operations in seven countries across four continents.
Canopy Growth (NYSE:CGC) is proudly dedicated to educating healthcare practitioners, conducting robust clinical research, and furthering the public's understanding of cannabis, and through its partly owned subsidiary, Canopy Health Innovations, has devoted millions of dollars toward cutting edge, commercializable research and IP development.
Through partly owned subsidiary Canopy Rivers Corporation, the Company is providing resources and investment to new market entrants and building a portfolio of stable investments in the sector.
