As Coronavirus-induced quarantine measures are preventing more than a handful of people congregating at once, the cannabis industry has found a work-around – hosting a town hall event online.
Coronavirus has caused virtually every event in the world to be delayed or entirely canceled. Major sporting events have been canceled, the Olympics has been postponed, movie productions have been delayed and 4/20 events and cannabis conferences across the globe have been pushed back indefinitely.
While 4/20 events and other cannabis conferences may seem trivial amid the pandemic that is the coronavirus, such events do serve a useful function in updating individuals on the continually shifting legislative landscape of the cannabis industry. This is becoming increasingly important given the uncertainty around the COVID-19 crisis and how it impacts cannabis dispensaries, medical cannabis patients and investors who operate within the cannabis space.
The fast-paced impact of coronavirus has shaken things up so drastically that there is very little clarity around the cannabis industry whatsoever. Some states have deemed cannabis dispensaries as "essential," while others have not. On top of that, it's currently unclear whether cannabis companies will receive any funding from the coronavirus stimulus packages, despite the freefall seen by the Global Cannabis Stock Index.
Needless to say, there are a lot of concerns surrounding the cannabis industry at large.
In order to mitigate some of these concerns, and clear up some of the confusion, New Frontier Data will be holding a Virtual Cannabis Town Hall, entitled: 'New Economic Realities' in which cannabis industry leaders will "address the impact of the ongoing health and economic crisis, exploring emerging challenges and opportunities across regional cannabis markets."
The event will be held on Thursday the 2nd of April and will be moderated by Tim Seymour and Amanda Drury from CNBC, as well as Carl Cameron, who previously reported for Fox News.
On the driving force behind the event, the CEO of New Frontier Fata, Giadha Aguirre de Carcer stated that"with so much change happening so quickly, we felt an obligation to bring forth the scientific and economic facts to help industry stakeholders through this unprecedented crisis."
The event will cover news from Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, and Latin America, with key figures from each region speaking about their field of expertise. Notable figures include Oludare Odumosu, the CEO of Zelira Therapeutics speaking for North America and Jason Raznick the CEO & Founder of Benzinga covering global media.
Covering the APAC region will be Rhys Cohen, the Principal Consultant of FreshLeaf Analytics, Dr. Richard Hopkins, the Managing Director of Zelira Therapeutics, Fleta Solomon, the Managing Director of Little Green Pharma and The Green Fund's own CEO and founder, Mark Bernberg.
Rhys Cohen told the Green Fund that "the event will be the first major opportunity for the global cannabis community to share their experience of how the current crisis is impacting patients, consumers, and businesses. I hope we can share some ideas and strategies on how to build resilience for the coming months."
Topics that will be discussed among cannabis industry leaders during the event will range from Global Cannabis Industry Socioeconomic Status in 2020, Impact of Coronavirus on Cannabis Markets by Region, and Risks & Opportunities by Region.
